4. File Form 202 Articles of Formation with Secretary of State* – Filing Fee by State
5. State of Texas will send recognition of filing for your organization.
 
Board of Directors / Trustees
6. Conduct an Organizational Board Meeting with minutes to approve organizational documents: Bylaws, Articles of Formation, and Conflict of Interest Policy and sign Acknowledgment Forms
 
Federal Filing
7. File for Employer Identification Number
Form SS-4 available at www.irs.gov – No cost
8. Prepare and File Form 1023 Application for Recognition of Exemption – Options*
Option 1 – Paper Filing for Form 1023:
Organizations with Expected Annual Revenue Annual Revenue exceeding $50K – IRS Filing Fee: $600.00
OR
Option 2 – Form 1023 EZ Electronic Filing:
Annual Revenue not exceeding $50K – IRS Filing Fee $275.00

After Exemption is Received
9. File for state tax exemptions with State Comptroller’s Office*: Franchise and Sales Taxes; Hotel Taxes if applicable.
10. File annual IRS report Form 990 – Available at www.irs.gov
